The Caim Ritual
My grandson Lochie creating the Caim at his mummy & daddy's Wedding Ceremony.
The Scots Gaelic word ‘Caim’ means ‘circle of protection’, and traditionally the Caim was used in Celtic Wedding Ceremonies as a way of protecting the bride & groom as they betrothed their lives to each other. To do this, guests would form a circle around the couple while saying a Caim prayer (prayer of protection), or the best man would draw a sword and walk round the couple creating an imaginary circle. The Caim was said to invoke the protection of the Sacred (or God/Spirit/the Universe/loved ones who have passed). But as well as giving the couple protection, a Caim also signifies wholeness and communion, because through the commitment the couple are making they are uniting together as one, and also joining together two families (or centuries ago, two clans).

The Quaich Blessing as a Funny Scottish Poem
Переглядів 1272 місяці тому
Why not do something a wee bit different? Wedding ceremonies are of course filled with language about love, commitment and a lifetime together, but they can also be funny and lighthearted, and they certainly don't need to be boring, or same old same old. One of the ways to bring a bit of fun and uniqueness into your ceremony is to have a poem written just for you. In this ceremony we had the po...
Have Your Wedding Story Told as a Poem!

As a Celebrant, I've had the privilege of crafting countless wedding ceremonies, each as unique as the couples themselves. One of my favourite ways to add a special touch to a fun, upbeat ceremony is by telling your love story in the form of a poem.

"Captain on the Bridge!" I can't tell you how much fun it was conducting Craig & Stephen's wedding ceremony in the Waldorf Astoria yesterday. From the Guest Roast, Roddy & Nic's tie dilemma, Come Dine with Me scores, Kylie puns, Geeky themes, a Caim with Lego pieces, Oathing Stone Vows and a 'Hearach' Quaich dram, coupled with the most amazing guests, it was an absolute privilege to lead them t...

The wonderful thing about having a Celebrant led ceremony is that it is completely shaped around you and the intention of the ceremony. This means your ceremony will be personal and unique. But is can also be quirky and fun, spiritual and reverent, geeky and weird, themed and silly, short and sweet or like a West End show! All Aye Do ceremonies are different, and so if you would like to chat ab...

Ciaran & Luca were married in Fonab Castle in September 2023. As part of the ceremony, they had a Handfasting, the groom's dad drew the Sword Caim to protect their Vows, and they rounded it all off with a wee dram of homemade sloe gin from the Quaich. It was a gorgeous wee ceremony!

Although the signing of the marriage schedule is a very important part of a Marriage Ceremony, and as a legal document I know it has to be official and pedantic, at the same time I have always found it to be a bit too impersonal for the majesty of the moment, and it vexes me that in an opposite sex ceremony, the groom's name is always first! So, in an Aye Do Marriage Ceremony, you don't just si...

“A offer ye this dram fae the quaich fur tae show it’s ma ettle tae share ma lyfe wi yours” Every time a couple shares a drink from the quaich, they are not only giving form to the promises of commitment that the day is built around, they are also following in the footsteps of all those who have gone before. Little did I know when I spotted this beautiful stone in a wee shop in the Outer Hebrides a few years ago, that it would become one of the most loved of the Aye Do ritual items. Blessed in ritual at the Callanish Standing Stones, so that whenever rings are placed within it they are imbued with the sacred energy of that ancient place, the Blessing Stone brings a potent depth to any Ceremony. A Walk through the Aye Do Scottish Wedding Rituals - The Oathing Stone

The Oathing Stone ritual is one of my favourite ceremony rituals. With its roots in ancient Celtic customs, it is often included in Scottish wedding ceremonies. The term "Oathing" refers to taking an oath or making a solemn promise, and the ritual involves the use of a special stone, either the Aye Do Oathing Stone, a stone belonging to the couple or using the stone of the venue itself. In the ...

We wanted to included a handfasting ceremony as part of it and this video is great! Thanks again!

    Kate and William were married in a Christian religious ceremony in West Minster Abbey there was no hand fasting ceremony. And should you not always be referring to yourself as a Celebrant and not slip to calling yourself a celibate... which has a whole other meaning?????

    • @AyeDoCeremonies
      @AyeDoCeremonies 3 роки тому

      Hi Cait, if you watch Kate & William's ceremony, just after they have exchanged rings they are asked to join right hands and a piece of cloth was then wrapped around their hands and a blessing was given. In terms of Celibate/Celebrant, I'm not sure what you heard, and it might be my Ayrshire accent but I'm definitely a Celebrant ;)

    I'm curious are there any different ways to make a handfast knot when the cording you are using is flat and wide? I had a traditional irish crios made for our wedding but due to it's nature it's hard to get a good knot style done and it not look awkward. I'm hoping to leave it knotted after and put it in a shadow box so I'm trying to find a nice knot style that can work for it. Any help would be appreciated.
